Roger Federer, Greatness Achieved - by Rolex (by WorldOfRolex)

Watched Wimbledon this morning while getting my elliptical on.  Didn’t get to see him play (an awesome match between Serena Williams and a Chinese girl was in progress) but this commercial aired.  All I gotta say is wow…

Today’s work-out is Cardio Abs (by totalfitnessdvds)  by Jessica Smith.  This is a fun dvd with a motivating instructor and good music.  It’s a good work-out too that get’s the job done without killing me (which running intervals did yesterday…) No dread factor here as kickboxing is fun…

Another Great Work-Out!  Anni Mairs’ Fierce Force…

I love finding new instructors and new work-outs to add to the mix.  Anni Mairs’ Fierce Force does not disappoint!  It’s divided into four 15 minute segments that work the lower body, the upper body, the core, and the entire body.  You can do the segments separately or do the entire work-out which is about 70+ minutes (includes warm-up and cool-down).  Each segment consists of a circuit that is done twice.  The segments consist of exercises that are performed for one minute followed by 15 seconds of rest.  I was drenched in sweat afterwards!  The only part that was not fun was the one minute of mountain climbers which was done twice :(  I love the way this dvd works the entire body along with cardio.  Definitely a keeper!

“I do cardio. I run. I strength-train using my own body weight. I don’t like free weights, because I build muscle easily. Really, what I try to instill in my fans is to be healthy and happy. I have no desire to be super-skinny.” -Kelly Clarkson in Redbook magazine

Extreme Workouts: When Exercise Does More Harm than Good

Getting at least some moderate exercise is good for us, and more is even better, doctors and public health experts say. But is there such a thing as too much exercise? Apparently, yes, according to researchers led by Dr. James O’Keefe, a cardiologist at the Mid America Heart Institute of St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas […]

Amy Dixon Breathless Body Promo (by ahdixon)

Today was my second official tabata style work-out.  I used Amy Dixon’s Breathless Body dvd which was rated one of the best calorie torching dvd’s by one of the fitness magazines.  One exercise was performed for 20 seconds followed by 10 seconds of rest and this sequence was done eight times.  There were eight different exercises and the entire dvd was close to an hour.

Amy’s dvd is nice in that she provides three variations (easy, intermediate, advanced) on each exercise.  It is a different way to exercise, can be a bit boring, but the time goes by quickly.  The whole point of Tabata, if I understand correctly, is to get the same results as a longer work-out in a shorter amount of time.

Physical Activity

I was reading some article last week that talked about exercise and physical activity and how both are better than being sedentary.  The author talked about how exercise involves a sustained effort that raises the heart rate and how physical activity is basically moving around and raising the heart rate above baseline (but nothing too strenuous).

So today is a physical activity day.  Mowed the yard and pulled some weeds.  All that pushing, pulling, bending, and moving stuff around the yard has to count for something!  Not to mention getting some vitamin D from the sun!  Next will be some spring cleaning.  If I am motivated, might pop in an exercise video later followed by an evening walk with the bf and the dogs.  Physical activity days make for good recovery/rest days from hard work-outs.

Spring is in the air!  After a week of gloomy, overcast, rainy weather, we had a day of sunshine and 70 degree weather!  Took my laptop to the backyard, popped in Mike Donavanik’s Extreme Burn and did his Extreme Work-out which is over an hour.  It goes by so quickly because there are so many different moves and Mike is constantly changing it up so it doesn’t get boring.  Lots of compound, functional moves that work the entire body.  What a great way to wake up-with sunshine and exercise!

Tomorrow I will be returning two dvds that I recently purchased because they did not “click” with me.  How many stores will allow you to try out a dvd and then return it?  That’s one of the reasons why I like shopping at Collage Video.

There are other reasons to like Collage Video.  They have a large selection of exercise dvds from many different instructors.  You can preview a clip of each dvd too and read reviews/ratings of each dvd from users.  There’s also a forum where you can discuss exercise dvds and other exercise related subjects.  Not to mention free shipping on all purchases over $25 and the dvds always arrive within a few days.
