Amy Dixon Breathless Body Promo (by ahdixon)

Today was my second official tabata style work-out.  I used Amy Dixon’s Breathless Body dvd which was rated one of the best calorie torching dvd’s by one of the fitness magazines.  One exercise was performed for 20 seconds followed by 10 seconds of rest and this sequence was done eight times.  There were eight different exercises and the entire dvd was close to an hour.

Amy’s dvd is nice in that she provides three variations (easy, intermediate, advanced) on each exercise.  It is a different way to exercise, can be a bit boring, but the time goes by quickly.  The whole point of Tabata, if I understand correctly, is to get the same results as a longer work-out in a shorter amount of time.

Physical Activity

I was reading some article last week that talked about exercise and physical activity and how both are better than being sedentary.  The author talked about how exercise involves a sustained effort that raises the heart rate and how physical activity is basically moving around and raising the heart rate above baseline (but nothing too strenuous).

So today is a physical activity day.  Mowed the yard and pulled some weeds.  All that pushing, pulling, bending, and moving stuff around the yard has to count for something!  Not to mention getting some vitamin D from the sun!  Next will be some spring cleaning.  If I am motivated, might pop in an exercise video later followed by an evening walk with the bf and the dogs.  Physical activity days make for good recovery/rest days from hard work-outs.

Spring is in the air!  After a week of gloomy, overcast, rainy weather, we had a day of sunshine and 70 degree weather!  Took my laptop to the backyard, popped in Mike Donavanik’s Extreme Burn and did his Extreme Work-out which is over an hour.  It goes by so quickly because there are so many different moves and Mike is constantly changing it up so it doesn’t get boring.  Lots of compound, functional moves that work the entire body.  What a great way to wake up-with sunshine and exercise!

Tomorrow I will be returning two dvds that I recently purchased because they did not “click” with me.  How many stores will allow you to try out a dvd and then return it?  That’s one of the reasons why I like shopping at Collage Video.

There are other reasons to like Collage Video.  They have a large selection of exercise dvds from many different instructors.  You can preview a clip of each dvd too and read reviews/ratings of each dvd from users.  There’s also a forum where you can discuss exercise dvds and other exercise related subjects.  Not to mention free shipping on all purchases over $25 and the dvds always arrive within a few days.

Bob Harper Ultimate Cardio Body

This is my favorite Bob Harper DVD.  The whole dvd is about an hour (it does have a bonus glutes section which I haven’t tried).  There are so many different moves alternating between upper body and lower body that the hour goes by quickly.  The work-out is challenging without killing me.  It’s so much better than his Body Rev Cardio Conditioning dvd-just for the fact that there are not a million non-stop dumbbell swings and suitcase swings.  Those long socks he wears are something else too.

Super Work-Out Today!

Started off with 35 minutes on the treadmill.  Wanted to do an hour, but the hip started tightening up so I changed it up and moved to the elliptical for 25 minutes.  Endorphins moved in so I managed to finish up with 25 minutes on the treadmill.  Total of 1 hr 25 min of cardio :) Made up for missing my work-out yesterday and got rid of some stress.  Yay for being back on track!

Tomorrow will be the extreme work-out with Mike Donavanik first thing in the morning before I go into work.

Totally off topic, but screw anyone who likes to mistreat others.

Intensity (by CatheTelevision)

My favorite Cathe Friedrich work-out dvd!  It includes step, bootcamp, and both hi and low impact moves.  Both Cathe and the music make the moves fun even though it is hard work!  For the first time ever, I completed the entire dvd (sans cool-down stretch) for a 50 minute work-out.  Whew!  Super exercise dvd!
